Celebration Time

We've had lots to celebrate and be thankful for the past few days in this household.

The most important being Nick and my 2 year "anniversary". We went to Bordino's where we had our first date. Can't believe it has only been 2 years. I'm looking forward to the next 50!!!!!

While we were there, we also celebrated my new J.O.B. Eeeeekkkkkk

Earlier that day, Walmart called me to officially offer me a position in Ladies Apparel. After anticipating it since my final interview on Monday, I was absolutely positive I wanted the position and accepted. They told me it would take about a week to conduct my background check, etc and that they would be getting in touch with me soon. So, while my head was in the clouds, and I was sitting in the kitchen asking myself "Is this real???", my new boss called me telling me she needed me to be on a plane first thing Monday morning to NYC.... for 2 weeks.

Long story short, I've spent the last couple days in shock, excited, happy, and maybe just a teensy bit overwhelmed---- but all in a good way.

This means big changes for our family. I am confident they are all good changes though, and we'll all get adjusted soon! Nick and I have prayed and prayed over the past few months on what I needed to do as far as working full time and that whatever was supposed to happen would happen the right way.

I will most definitely miss dropping the girls off to school and picking them up on our days. I'll miss helping in Bryn's classroom and going to eat lunch with them randomly.

But this is going to be sooooo good for them, and when I send them off to college for an education a few years from now, I will know that going back to work to put them through school was worth it!

I'm VERY excited to be working with a lot of people again. I LOVE dressing my clients, but I am definitely ready for the business challenges I used to face on a day to day basis. And I will still be working with CLOTHES!!!! I will also miss working with my dad a couple days a week, but I'm not going to be far from his office, so I will for sure be popping in at lunch some days to say hi to everyone.

So, I'm headed to NYC two days from now. I'll be gone for 2 weeks straight.

Nick (who has been so incredibly supportive of all of this I can't even begin to explain it) is bringing the girls so I can see everyone next weekend.

And..... they will get to see AUNT TARA AND UNCLE NATHAN!

"When are we going to NY to see Aunt Tara" has been the topic of conversation lately,

so this is all working out quite well.

I went to tutor yesterday for the last time in Bryn's class, and when I was leaving Bryn was talking about me being gone so long, and she said, "I don't want my Jenny to leave." I looked at her and said, "I don't want to leave my Brinny but...." and before I could go any further she said, "But I'll see you in NEWWWWWWW YORK!!!!!!!"

So, that's that. Keep us all in your prayers while we are apart for the next few days! I can't wait to see how Nick does with 3 little girls on the plane for the first time. (I know he will be a rockstar.) I'm going to miss my family! But I'm super excited to see my sister for so long and dive into the corporate world again!!!

I'm guessing I won't be blogging much as most of my free time is going to be hanging out with my sister and Nate and facetiming my husband and bonus daughters.

We met up with GiGi and Uncle Lucas after church today for lunch at Olive Garden.

These were the two pics we got. I really enjoyed it.

I wish I could hang out with all of my family every. single. day. Lucas went hunting this morning about an hour and a half away and still met us for lunch=awesomeness!

Some funny things the kids said/did over the weekend:

1) I was helping Bryn fold blankets and clean her room and she goes, "I know how old you are. Its either 29 or 49 but I can't remember. And my mom is 24."

2) Bryn has officially moved on from Justin Bieber and Brandon S in the first grade as her boyfriends. She now not only has a crush.... but is IN LOVE with.... a THIRD grader. (She is in the first grade.) He happens to be in karate with Libby and said hi to her in the car rider line on Friday, and from that moment on.... she was SMITTEN.

3) We're at Olive Garden today, and Libby asked where Doc was. GiGi said, "At Duck Camp". Libby replied, "Ummmm.... he's too old to be going to camp."

We Bought.... or went.... to a Zoo

So, a few days ago we all went to see "We Bought a Zoo" w/ Doc, GiGi, Tara, Nate, Haley, Greg, Lucas and Brooke. It was sooooo good, and the girls have talked about it ever since. Abbey actually took a couple of her friends to see it a couple days later b/c she loved it so much.

Anyways, so they have talked about the movie ever since and wanting to see it again, so we decided to go to a real zoo on Saturday. The weather was nice, so at the last minute that day, we loaded up and headed to..... The Wildlife Safari Drive Thru Zoo in Gentry.

A) Nick had never been. B) He's lived here almost all his life.

So, we drove out there, and it didn't disappoint.

We started out by doing the drive thru part. The girls geeked out and loved it. They have a ton of animals that you'd never guess they would have.... in the most remote place ever (or at least one of them) in Arkansas.

GO HOGS

We are so proud of our HOGS! They won the Cotton Bowl Friday night, and I personally thought we did a fantastic job as we were playing quite an awesome team. As I always say, "I Heart Bobby."

We had the girls Friday night and given last Thursday was their first day back to school, and we were all EXHAUSTED, we decided to be home bodies and stay in for the game.

We did, however, have our own little watch party w some "game food" apps. (meatballs, cheese dip, pinwheels, etc) The girls found the "fancy plastic cups" (some of you may know the inside joke about Nick showing up with the fancy cups instead of the plastic wine cups I needed for a party one time) and wanted to drink their sprite and ginger ale (and maybe a little coke in which after wards they were WIRED) out of them in honor of the occasion. It was a GREAT night at home and much needed down time. Nick and I even managed to "facetime" with GiGi (who was also exhausted on her couch watching the game in Rogers bc Doc was at duck camp). Uncle Lucas and Aunt Haley went to the Cotton Bowl, and it was apparently a grand time. Aunt Tara and Uncle Nathan were watching it from The Mad Hatter in NYC.

Callie came over while her parents were at a watch party. We are SO happy she lives just down the street from us! They have become really good friends (and are in the same class this year).

Nick and I got Bryn a princess castle for her bday. Libby decorated the inside with all of Bryn's essentials for her..... (Piggy Paint nail polish, journal, books, Nick's laptop, markers, etc)

It will be sooooo quiet, and I won't know where Bryn is,

and then I'll peek inside, and she's in her own little world.

Grandy made her the pink blanket. Nick and I each have one too, and the other girls' are in the making. They are the BEST EVER. Thank you, Grandy!!

2012 + Chores= Calico Critters

As 2012 comes along.... it brings a little something new to our house with it......

CHORES

I know, I know. It sounds so Cinderella-ish/Step-Mom-ish when I say the word "chores".

(I am a step-mom after all-- hehe).....

However, the girls are pretty pumped about it. And.... it was actually partly their idea.

We went shopping last week to spend some of their Christmas money, and when we got home, Bryn said she wished she had a job so she could make money and buy all the "Calico Critters" she could ever want. We started brainstorming ways she could make money, and then the subject of chores came up. So, we decided together that she'll have a list of chores to do each week (on the days she is with us). We're making a chart each month, and if she fills all the spaces with stickers each week, she'll get her allowance. The allowance will go into her piggy bank (she and Libby painted pottery piggy banks w GiGi a couple months ago), and then when she saves enough, she'll buy whatever she wants with her money. (Calico Critters are all she has on her mind at the moment.)

So, we've been "practicing" the chores the past week, and we'll officially start the chart next week. Abbey and Libby have decided they would like to start in on this as well.

Tonight, Bryn set the table for dinner. She did it all on her own. We had "Chili's Chicken Tenders" (recipe from Ryan and Julie that is FAB), mashed potatoes and corn. *I had fish and sweet potatoes b/c I'm getting ready for my honeymoon remember??. I made everyone's plates, and she set them out at each "place setting" she had created (notebook paper name plates and all). She was pretty proud.

Hello 2012

Happy New Year, Everyone!

2011 was such a great year, and I can't believe it's already over.

I'm pumped about 2012 and what it will bring!

I didn't really make any "official" resolutions. However, I do have a couple of goals....

1) To stop worrying about everything. I am such a worrier. I am constantly worrying about something-- whether it's something will happen to someone in my family, what others think of me (this has often been since I became a step-mom--- weird I know....), and more... So, I'm going to stop worrying... or at least try.

2) Get myself in shape for my HONEYMOOOOON!!!!! We're going for our 1 year anniversary, and I am soooooooo ready and excited!

So, anyway.... That's that.

Nick and I spent our NYE by cooking dinner and then headed to our neighbor's annual NYE "Wiggin Out" Party. We decided to go at the last minute, so I headed to Cheap Thrills Saturday, and John helped me pick them out. They were pretty low on them, but I was happy with the 2 we got. We had fun with them.

My Grandy says he looks like Howard Stern here. Pretty funny.

We planned to go hiking and camping yesterday to try out our new gear. We were all packed up and ready to go but were running a little late in the day, and it was going to be colder than we had thought so we decided on our drive there to stay home. We ended up going to Burger Life and shopping in our hiking gear and then stayed home. It was nice and relaxing.

Skating, New Glasses and More

A couple nights ago, we went skating for Bryn's bday. Her mom had originally planned to take her on her actual bday, but they were closed. So, she really wanted to go the next night, so we made an impromptu stop at the Starlight Skating Rink. Each girl took a friend, and it was a good time.

One of my favorite parts was Libby (age 10) getting HIT ON by a boy (who I am GUESSING was around age 9-11) right in front of NICK and MYSELF. HILARIOUS! She didn't realize we were watching, and she was obviously NOT enjoying (yet enjoying it at the same time). He offered to buy her a coke, get her something to eat, etc, etc. She turned him down (nicely) each time. He then asked for her phone number in which she proceeded to tell him she doesn't have a phone (in which she does). And Morgan was there (looking like her protector) through the entire experience. SOOOO funny. I know she was secretly flattered, and I can't wait until she reads this post years from now and remembers that night. Ohhhhhh...... it is all beginning---- BOYS!

All of their friends spent the night after skating. Nick had to go to work, so yesterday it was just 6 girls and myself. I had forgotten Lily was coming (to save my life of the disastrous after Christmas mess of a house), so I had to evacuate all of us so we weren't in her way. So, we decided to go to the mall, and the girls picked out a few things with the Christmas money Nonnie and Granddad gave them.

We started at Chick-Fil-A in the food court. Morgan looked at me as we were walking in and goes, "I bet people think you have six kids and that I'm adopted." hahahahahahahah We laughed so hard about that. She is kind of like our 4th adopted daughter. haha I responded with, "No, I bet they think I'm a nanny." hehe

After Chick-Fil-A, Bryn wanted to head to Claire's to pick out some "glasses" she's REALLY been wanting. The older girls split and went on their own b/c that would only be the cool thing to do.

We took all the friends home and when Nick got home we headed to Rogers for family movie night with my parents, sisters, brother and all significant others. We saw "We Bought a Zoo", and we all enjoyed it.

Bryn's Birthday Party

Bryn's birthday was a couple of days ago (the 27th), but we decided to have her bday party earlier this month (yes, I'm just now posting), so her friends would be able to come as most people are traveling this time of year.

We had a pajama party, and all the girls came dressed in their favorite pj's. They had their nails polished and made chap stick and bubble bath.

We broke them up into stations.... thought it would be less chaotic....

and I was for sure right on that one. :)

Libby and Morgan helped with the "label making" station. They decorated labels for their bubble baths and chapsticks.

Megan made Bryn a bday hat and sent it all the way from Fort Worth. It arrived right at party time. THANK YOU Megan and Sutton!! She felt SO special!

I manned the chapstick/bubble bath station. They all flavored and scented on their own. Some of them were STRONG and LOVELY. :)

Our First Christmas

I can't believe Christmas has come and gone already. The season went by so fast this year.

Nick and I had a really great first Christmas being married, and we all had a great first Christmas as a family! We had the girls Christmas Eve. We decided with their mom that we are going to switch off each year. So, this year, they stayed with us Christmas Eve and their mom Christmas night. Next year will be vice versa and switch each year. I am excited about it!

So, Christmas Eve, we had lunch with Nonnie and Granddad. Nick and Granddad fried a turkey, and we had lots of great sides to go with it. We opened gifts and had a really great time. Nonnie and Granddad were WAY too kind to us this year. We are so thankful for everything we received!

Abbey got a camera. She was so surprised b/c Nick and I told her we weren't getting her one this year. HOWEVER, we didn't say that Nonnie and Granddad weren't! It was great seeing her surprised.

Libby and Bryn got lots of clothes for their American Dolls. They were on CLOUD 9.

They got Nick and me backpacks! We've been wanting a hobby together and seeing he rides a bike (and I don't), and I run (and he doesn't)--- hiking/camping is the perfect thing!

We went home after lunch to get ready for Santa. The girls wrote notes to him while I got the cookies ready. We figured since we'd be gone late to Doc and GiGi's we should prob prepare beforehand.

We headed to church for the Christmas Eve service with Doc, GiGi and the entire crew. I didn't get a single pic of us dressed in our Christmas outfits together. Better luck next year!

After church, we headed to Doc and GiGi's for another WONDERFUL meal and more gift giving.

My entire family spoiled my new additional family to pieces. They have welcomed them as they've been with us for years, and I'm so thankful for that. And my new additional family has done the same. It makes me very happy! You don't get that with all blended families, so I'm very thankful!

We got home and got the girls to bed. They slept in our bed, and we slept on a blow up mattress. Otherwise, they would have come out of their rooms early, and we would have been opening at 2:30am. hehe It was fun having a slumber party.

So Much To Be Thankful For

It has been a while!! Have been busy, busy and more busy.

However, most of you know Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday EVER. Therefore, I HAD to sit down and write down what I'm thankful for.

So, after the year that I've had, I am obviously thankful for SOOO much. At the top of my list would most definitely be my family.

Nick

Ummmm..... Where do I even begin?? I am so thankful that you are my husband and my best friend. I am so thankful for your love and dedication to the girls and me. You work hard everyday to make sure that we have a roof over our heads (actually, two roofs for the girls), food on the table (even though I cook it- hehe), and provide us with experiences we will never forget, and you always amaze me. You are a true man of character. I am thankful that you pray with our girls every night we have them and teach them right from wrong. I am thankful that when we get into our stupid arguments that you always come to me first to make up (b/c I am too hard headed to give in) even if it is my fault (that is NOT saying it is always my fault honey.... hehe). I am thankful for your little jokes or comments that some people may not get but that I get. You are yourself and fun loving all the time, and I LOVE YOU. Thank you for being my bestie. I love you more than you will ever know.

Abbey

I am thankful for you in so many ways. You remind me of myself when I was your age. You are the oldest and always helping take care of your sisters. I can always count on you to help me with Bryn's hair if we are running late for school or to help me pour glasses of milk at breakfast while I finish making lunches. You are such a great role model to your sisters, and they look up to you. I am thankful at how hard you work in school and how great of a dancer you are. I REALLY love your sense of style and sharing clothes and accessories with you. I also love your voice when you are singing in the car and don't realize that anyone is listening. It is awesome. I love the fact that we go to the grocery store, divide and conquer on the list, and you always come back with the least expensive items you can find. You are going to be a smart shopper just like your father. :) I love your commitment to cell group and that you are going on a mission trip in March. I love that we have gotten closer the past few months, and I am thankful for having such a great step-daughter like you. I love you, Abbey and am so thankful that God brought our lives together.

I am so thankful for you. It never fails... When I am having a bad day and not even showing my emotions, you somehow know that I need a hug. I love your dedication to karate and your hard work in school this year. I love that you still love me even when I push you to try your hardest in school when you don't want to. I LOVE how you treat others. You are kind to everyone even if you do not receive the same treatment in return. I am thankful for that. I am thankful for your prayers at night. You are so thoughtful and full of life. You are so talented in acting, and I love watching your self produced plays. I am thankful for your hugs everyday and when you gently wake me up at night b/c you are scared. I love my Libby more than you will ever know.

I am so thankful for you. I remember the first time that we bonded. We were at your dad's house by the University, and you let me polish your nails a bright pink color. Then, you let me tuck you in. And at that moment, I knew that we were going to have a bond for life. I am so thankful for waking up every morning that you are with us with your bright smiling face staring into my face just waiting for me to wake up. I am thankful that you have tried SOOOO hard in school this year and made such good grades. I am thankful that you are kind to everyone in class. I am thankful for your prayers around the dinner table and that you love Jesus more than anyone in the world. I was very thankful today when you told me that you think I am now ready to start packing your bag for trips b/c you trust that you will love the outfits that I pick out for you. You are precious, and I love you with all of my heart. I love my Brinny.

Dad

I can't even tell you how thankful I am for you. I love getting to see you throughout the week at the office. You are such a man of integrity, and you truly have a passion for helping others. I love that you opened not only your arms but also your heart to Nick and the girls. It is so funny how the girls just took to you in an instant. I hear about Doc and GiGi CONSTANTLY. They love you, and I am so thankful that you have accepted this life I have that I never knew I would. Thanks for everything you do for me and how much you love me.

Mom

You are most definitely one of my best friends. I love that you are always there for me. I am so thankful for your love of your children and your constant dedication to us. You are gorgeous both inside and out, and I hope to become as good of a mom one day as you have been to me. Thank you for loving Nick and the girls as your own. I am thankful that you and I talk everyday even if it is just to say hi. I love you more than you'll ever know, and I am thankful that I see myself being more and more like you everyday.

Oh, seeester. I am so thankful for my seeester. I love your energy and am so thankful for it. I wish you could send a little my way. hehe I love how you and I can fight like cats and dogs and still love each other with all our hearts. I am so proud of you for finding a wonderful man like Nate to be your husband and for your accomplishments at your job. I am very thankful you are always there for me. You are such a great sister in law to my husband and have embraced my daughters like crazy, and I am so thankful for that. Love you, seester!!!!

Haley

Oh, Halo. I love you too, seester!!!! I am so thankful for your individuality and for always being a phone call away if I need you. You always keep me entertained and laughing on twitter, and I love it. I love that we can go days/weeks without talking and when we talk we just pick right up from where we left off. I am thankful that you are so smart and make smart decisions in your life. Thanks for being a great aunt to my girls!! LOVE YOU!!!

Lucas

I am so thankful for you. I am thankful that I can show up at your apartment to hang out or we can go on a drive and just talk. There aren't a lot of siblings who are 10 years apart and have a bond that we do, and I am so thankful for that. Thanks for being such a great Uncle Lucas and always being there for me. I am so glad you are at the U of A this year and finally rooting for the Razorback football team. hehehehe Love you brother!!!! And P.S. This was seriously the most recent pic I had of just the two of us..... Guess we missed a photo op at my wedding???? P.P.S. I am thankful my hair isn't jet black anymore. Love you, Brother!

weekend=superb

This weekend was superb. Even though I actually had a fever for about 50% of the time, it was a great weekend. Friday night, Nick and I grabbed Chinese and hung out at home.

Saturday morning, I helped host a shower for my dear friend, Jess/Hesse. She's having a baby girl in January, and everyone showered her with really great gifts. She is going to be an awesome mom! I forgot my camera and got ZERO pics. Kylie, I will have to steal yours when you post. :)

After the shower, I met up with Nick at our friends' (George and Gina) tailgate party. The Hogs finally got their act together the 2nd half, and I do believe we are ranked #8 now. LOVE IT.

I didn't get any pics at the party either.

Saturday night, we had a little get together at our house. I did manage to get a few pics, but I wish I would have taken more. If you were there, and I didn't get your pic.... sorry!

We had a BLAST. The rain even waited until late night to grace us with its presence before we had to move it all indoors.

Fall Parties and A Trip to the "Beach"

Wow! What a week. It has been a super busy one for us. Nick was out of town a couple days for work this week, and the girls and I were home alone for the first time on a school night. It also happened to storm one entire night while he was gone, and miraculously, the girls all slept through the night. I missed Nick majorly even though he was only gone for 2 days. Last night, we went on a date to Legacy Blues. You all must go. We really enjoyed it.

Abbey didn't go to school today after a rumor of a girl bringing a gun to school (long story) started this morning. So, we did some things to keep her mind off of it (she was pretty freaked). She helped me make some snacks for Libby's fall party at school, and we had a great time together. She even got to go to Libby and Bryn's parties with me, so I know that made her feel special.

We made these fruit kabobs for the party. If you ever want a healthy snack for kids, make these. They devoured them. (It may or may not have been the fruit shaped marshmallows I added to lure them into the real fruit. haha)

We got home, and the weather was BEAUTIFUL, so out the door I sent the 2 little ones to play outside, and Abbey went to a friend's house for a little while.

We also went on a walk. It was seriously GORGEOUS today. Halfway through our walk, Bryn looked at me and said, "This is so relaxing. It almost feels like I'm getting a massage or something I'm so relaxed." She was right. Today was AMAZING.

We had a nice, relaxing night tonight. Grilled and chilled. Something we haven't done in forever b/c we are always on the go. Bryn crashed early (as usual). Nick put her to bed, and she was already asleep when I went in to say goodnight. So, I kissed her forehead and quietly said, "I love my Brinny." (She and I have a thing where we say, "I love my Brinny." and "I love my Jenny.") As I turned to walk out of the room, she mumbled in her sleep, "I love my Jenny". Melt. My. Heart.

Last Wednesday, we went on a field trip for Bryn's class to the U of A Farm. It was really great weather for it, and everyone had a fun time. We did everything from a hayride tour to holding baby chicks to petting horses and more. They were supposed to wear jeans, but Bryn made sure to squeeze her "horse skirt" as she likes to call it OVER her jeans. Priceless.

Today marked 35 years that my sweet Nick's mom, Ruth Anne, has been in heaven. I didn't know her (obviously), but I definitely enjoy hearing stories of her all of the time. Nick has a jewelry box of hers (the kind that plays music when it is opened), and he had it out the other night while Libby put on some of his mom's jewelry. I am so glad he has things like that to share with the girls since they never got to meet their grandmother.

This is from our wedding day. The rings in the middle are Ruth Anne's. And on both sides are my grandfather and grandmother's wedding rings. I am certain all three of them are looking down from above daily laughing at the fun the five of us have.

So, as I said, we had a bday party for Abbey's 13th birthday a couple weeks ago. We had a total of 10 fabulous girls there-- It was 6 of Abbey's friends, Abbey, Libby, Bryn and Morgan. We picked everyone up from school (in 2 cars) and headed out to my parents' lake house Friday afternoon. We made lip balms and bubble bath (thanks for the idea, Rave), opened gifts, had a campfire w/ smores of course, and told scary stories. Oh, and they had a little dance competition. (make sure to see pic below)

Hello MIDDLE OF SEPTEMBER!!! And hello to everyone reading!

I'm a little behind, but here goes to trying to get caught up! I want to get the blog printed each year as like a little journal/pic flipbook, so I guess as long as I touch on everything that has happened (or at least to some degree) at some point, then I am ok.

So, August came and went so quickly.

The girls started school, Tara moved to NYC, and Nick had a bday.

Just SOME of what happened in August/part of September.

To make a long story short-- The girls are all having awesome years so far. They all have fabulous teachers, and they have some of their best friends in their classes.

Abbey LOVES junior high (8th grade). She was "dreading" it a few months ago, and now she loves it. So, that's great. She is taking dance 2 days a week, and she and a few of her friends just started taking yoga once a week. I think they are going to LOVE IT! Abbey also turned 13 earlier this month-- will touch on that in a bit.

Libby started 5th grade this year and loves her teacher as well. I also LOVE her. Libby is in class with Morgan and a few other friends. She is ROCKING it on her spelling tests and reading. Very proud of her. She goes to karate twice a week and is still really enjoying it.

Bryn is in 1st grade and is soooooooooo "grown up" now. She cracks me up. Her teacher (who is also named Jennifer) is amazing. I am helping in their class every Thursday morning during journal and reading time. I sometimes walk around and help everyone in general with their journals while their teacher works with another group, or I will also be working one on one with some children. I really enjoy it, and it gives me a good glimpse of Bryn in class. She is taking dance again this year- ballet and tap. Her teacher ROCKS.

Nick and Abbey both had birthdays close together, so we celebrated both of them a couple of weeks ago with the family. Tara was in town from NYC, so it worked out perfectly. We had Mexican food, opened gifts and ate lots of cake and pie.

She got a backpack from Doc and GiGi (my parents). She has been wanting one like that FOR-EV-ER.

I took Libby and Bryn to a dollar store and gave them $5 each to buy gifts for their dad. (Don't worry, we got him other things as well!) They got LOTS (10 total to be exact) of fun gifts for him. Some included a LOVEly turquoise hat (from Bryn), super glue (from Libby), calendar Libby), gardening gloves (Bryn), and many more.

We had a party for Abbey and her friends out at my parents' lakehouse last weekend. I will blog on that during my next post.

Weekend Recap

Our weekend FLEW by. I can't believe it is Monday as I'm typing this post!

It was a great weekend indeed! Mine started Friday night with a dinner meeting for work, and when I got out of dinner, I learned that Nick and Bryn had planned an impromptu date for the three of us. Abbey was at Harper's birthday party, and Libby was at Morgan's for her birthday as well. Bryn was on CLOUD NINE to be the "only child" all night.

I met them at Lokomotion, and we exceeded our goal of 100 tickets to get her a birthstone or "birthMARK" ring as she calls it. In fact, we were a little over 200 tickets, so she got her birthstone ring and lots of other ~~cheap~~ LOVELY items.

She LOVES her Steve, and Steve LOVE his Bryn.

The next morning we stopped by to say hi to Morgan and Libby. Morgan turned 10 this weekend. They are both wearing glasses now. LOVE IT.

We continued our Daddy, Jenn and Bryn date onto Saturday morning as we made a stop at Rick's. She chose a petit fore for breakfast. yep.... that's right. :)

Then we headed to the Farmer's Market. As soon as we saw the parking garage by the Town Center, she immediately recognized it as where Aunt Tara got married.

Saturday, we picked Abbey and Libby up from the parties and headed to do some car shopping. Oh, and btw, we are selling my car if anyone needs one!! I love it, but I need something a little bigger given I have 3-4 extra passengers with me now!

Yesterday, Nick, Libs, Bryn and I headed to the skate park in Fay. Nick brought out his moves from the past, and all the little boys there thought his old board from way back was "amazing".

Back to School

Hello everyone! I thought an update on The Gowens was long overdue.... so I literally put everything aside for a few minutes to update. I am for sure going to be a very consistent blogger now that my sister (and soon to be Nathan) are in NYC now. And for the record..... I already miss her like crazy!! I am so happy and proud for her though and can't wait to visit. I am so thankful that she has such great people there to welcome her and take care of her. I can't wait to see how much she grows in her career and life in general while there.

Soooo..... the girls started back to school this week! Ashlea and I took Libby and Bryn to meet their teachers last Thursday. They are AWESOME teachers, and we are all so excited for this year.

Libby's teacher (Mrs. Stull) and Nick go WAY back to college..... they may or may not have gone on a few dates back in the day! hahahaha LOVE IT. The girls REALLY get a kick out of that.

Morgan is in class with Libby this year, so they are so happy about that too. I just LOVE Morgan like one of our own. She is so positive and kind to everyone and is such a great friend to Libby.

Bryn's teacher (Mrs. Page) is awesome as well! Bryn had a really hard time at the beginning of kindergarten last year b/c she is so shy. I walked her in on her second day of first grade, and she had a huge smile on her face and went right to her desk. (Yes, she has a big girl desk this year instead of tables!) She is VERY excited that she gets to have "homework" like her sisters this year. I think she is going to have a great year. She is also in class with many of her friends, including one little girl who just moved into our neighborhood, so that's awesome. She and Chloe didn't get in the same class, but she gets to see her at recess everyday.

Abbey is LOVING JUNIOR HIGH. Yes, that's right. I am a stepmom of a child in JUNIOR HIGH. WOWZERS!! We went to find her locker last week, and it turned out being right below her BFF Harper's locker! And 2 of her other BFFs are just a couple lockers down. They all have lunch together and even a few classes. I was super excited to see her happy about school b/c she has been nervous all summer.

Nick and I went to open house this week to meet all of her teachers. We really like them. I think this is going to be a great year!

Family Weekend

The Gowens had a very laid back, go with the flow weekend. We had a fam filled weekend as we won't be hanging out all together again until next MONDAY. Yes, that's right. An entire week!! Nick left for Chicago this morning for work, and I fly out on Thursday 3 hours before his flight gets in. So, I will see him when he picks me up at the airport next Sunday.

I will have the girls Wednesday night so that will be a great!

I'm going to miss them while I am gone, and I'm already missing Nick. Ok... end of sob story! :)

So, Friday night the girls had Morgan and Chloe over. It was Chloe's 6th birthday, so it was a very special night to have her over! Abbey and I made a cake for her. Carolyn also came over to hang out and have dinner. I hadn't seen her in a while, so it was great to catch up!

The girls have really been into cooking lately. Abbey and Libby have been watching when I make choc chip pancakes, and Abbey made them the other day all by herself!

I know, I know. I just knew I wouldn't be posting while we were on vacation. I shouldn't have even attempted! I got one paragraph done while we were there, and that was all.

And now, 2 weeks from getting back, I am posting the trip.

Needless to say, we had a great week in Navarre, and I didn't want to come home! The only thing that brought me back not missing the sand under my feet was that Tara and Nathan were getting married the next weekend!

Here is our trip in pics. We ate delicious seafood while we were there, stayed up way late a few nights, went crab hunting at night, rented kayaks, read books on the beach, built sand castles, saw the Blue Angels, Bryn was a "puppy" all week (see pics below), and much more.

Florida Bound

This week has been so out of the ordinary for us. The girls are gone to Florida with their mom, so it has just been Nick, Steve and me. And on top of that, we had absolutely NOTHING planned for this week in the evenings, so it has felt so strange! I haven't seen the girls since I left for Dallas last Friday, so I am really missing them. I know Nick is too.

Monday night, we had an impromptu date to Burger Life and to see Hangover 2.

Last night, I hung out with Julie and the boys at their house, and we cooked dinner. Nick was riding with some friends, and Ryan was doing fly fishing stuff with friends. It was LONG overdue with Chewy and much needed!

We leave Friday for Florida, and I'm really ready. It will be our first beach vacay together. We'll meet the girls on Saturday, and they will stay with us down there.

I will try to post some pics each day from the trip, but we all know what the chances of that happening will be!

Tara Does Dallas

We celebrated Tara's bachelorette party in Dallas this past weekend. It was all of her bridesmaids except Amy (who had prior bday plans with her son). It was for sure a very memorable and fun time! I laughed so hard that I was crying.

If you know my sister, she is quite the trip and always keeps you on your toes!

The first pic is from Mi Cocina restaurant the first night. We had quite the confrontation with a couple of pretty hateful people, and my sis stayed SO calm. I was super proud of her. Without detail, they were extremely harrassing to her, and she just kept a smile on her face (even while they were getting kicked out of the restaurant by the police- hehe).

My dear friend Megan came up the weekend before the wedding and came over for dinner one night so everyone could meet each other.. (Yes, that would be a month ago, and I am just now posting pics.) I was SUPER excited to see her b/c it had been 2 years. I was also very happy to finally meet my "niece" Sutton in person! She is PRECIOUS. The girls really loved her a lot too.

She didn't let me hold her long. Probably b/c I looked the way I did...

Bennett, Megan and Sutton moved from NYC to Fort Worth in January, so I am happy to get to see them more often.

Father's Day and more

Not sure where the first half of June went. I literally just can't keep up!

I am currently chilling with my husband (hehe) after a really great weekend. We hung out last night with my parents, Krystal and Sarthak at the lake house. Mom and I cooked shrimp, corn, potatoes, etc, and then I gave Nick a black eye. Yep- he's got what looks like a really dark eyeshadow CAKED all over his eye lid. We were all chilling on the dock late night when he and I bumped sides of our heads. It did not phase me one bit, but the poor guy's right eye took a beating. So glad he still loves me!

Well, our lives have been non-stop. School has been out for a week now, and the girls are getting settled into summer.

I'm excited to get to stay home with them some this summer.

I think we will be living at the pool on the days I have them.

Libby began karate a couple weeks ago. She has been talking about karate ever since I met her, and I told her that once dance was finished for the year, we would look into karate. She's really enjoying it, and I think it is a perfect match for her.

Bryn went to Chloe's 6th birthday party last Wednesday. Abbey and I had a "date" to get pedicures that evening. Her friend Harper came with us. Then, we went home, and I made her homemade chicken noodle soup (Sara's recipe that Abbey is obsessed with) and we chilled outside and chatted. Nice bonding time for sure. We've been bonding a lot lately.

We celebrated Father's Day with Nick's dad on Thursday. They came over for pizza and cake.

We bought Renee and Buckley's couch and ottoman a couple weeks ago. We have put it upstairs and slowly creating a fun hang out spot for the girls and their friends. We'll gradually add some things the next few weeks... including a popcorn machine. In the meantime, they've been popping popcorn in the microwave up there. Funny.

We all spent Father's Day at the lake house today with my fam and some family friends. Gigi's bday is also this Wednesday, so we celebrated that as well.

Family Honeymoon

We had the girls the weekend after our wedding, and we decided the theme of the weekend would be "The Family Honeymoon". So, we picked the girls up Friday afternoon and headed to La Huerta patio for some live music and Mexican food. Then, we headed home for a game night of "Headbands". Jess gave this game to the girls, and we all LOVE it. Thank you Hesse!! Nick then had a great, late night idea to go to Maggie Moo's. Delicious.

Harper spent the night with Abbey that night and Libby and Bryn spent the night with Nick and me. :) Although we have a king size bed... it was a tight squeeze!

The next morning, Libby and I made pancakes for everyone. It was a blast using our new mixing bowls from the Meltons! Libby made them from scratch and did everything on her own. I simply just stood with her in case she had questions.

This is the worst pic ever of me but I love it. Waking up to a normal life with everyone! (I told you I wore that tank all weekend!)

Hello From Mrs. G

Isn't that the greatest?? I didn't have to change my initials! My official name is Jennifer Jo Gartman Gowen. Of which I will go by Jennifer Gowen. JJGG Love it. I couldn't drop a name. They are all a part of who I am. There was ZERO way I was losing the Gartman. It is like a first name to a lot of people!

ANYWAY.... So, we got married. Yesterday was the "1 month anniversary" of us getting ENGAGED. Crazy, huh? And we've been married for 2 weeks today!

I have literally had zero time to do a post on the wedding, but I'm forcing myself to sit down and blog about it so that I can log this as a journal entry and actually remember it 30 years from now.

THE DAY BEFORE

It was pretty insane how things just kind of came together like a puzzle from the time we got engaged to the time we said "I do". Unlike many people just assumed (b/c I would have too), I had NOTHING planned before we got engaged. The only thing I knew is that I was wearing a dress my mother's from the 70's that she wore to an event, and I was going to need to get it reworked for the length. So, even the day before our wedding, I was doing those little things that you forget about, and my mother and sister were right there helping me as well.

So, at 4pm the day before, I met up with my mom so she could bring me my shoes for the wedding (that she had just purchased that afternoon). I had looked a few places, but for some reason I just never was feeling any of the shoes that I saw. Then, my mom sent me a pic of a pair Holly at Warren's had picked out with her, and I loved it. It was actually one I had seen previously, but it was a flat so I had waited.

Well, I met my mom to get the shoes and at that time, Maria from Lethal Lure called to tell me my dress was ready! (Yes, this is the DAY/24 HOURS before I was getting married, and I had not seen the final project of my dress! I just trust Maria THAT much.)

So, we scooted over to LL, and she presented me with the dress. I put it on and walked out of the dressing room, and I thought I was going to pass out. Y'all, it was exactly what I had pictured and kind of described to Maria. My mom and I were in love it. (as Maria was too)

The final revised product! She added a layer that opened in the front and had a small train in the back.

To make a long story short, I finished my tasks of the day and went home to say goodnight to my groom.

He gave me a hug when I was getting into my car, and he said a very nice prayer for us and our big day the next day. It was something I will never forget. I told him bye, and I headed to my parents' house for the last slumber party as a Gartman. My "Aunt", Kim and "Sister/Seester", Ally were there along with all of my family and Nathan. We had some wine (but not too much), and then I crashed. I slept AWESOMEly.

Tara and I got airbrushed that day. Don't worry, it washes off.

Nick's mom passed away when he was 9 years old. Tara made a pendant with his mom, Ruth Anne's picture that he wore inside his suit. My mom pinned it on him before the wedding.

THE BIG DAY

I woke up at 6:30am and took a shower. I had some quiet time by myself for a little bit-- drinking my coffee and writing cards for everyone who was in the wedding.

Then, we went for manicures/pedicures at my fave place in Fayetteville. (Fancy Nails in Fayetteville-- They are seriously the best. And they have a place next door for kids called Glitterbox-- the most adorable little kids spa ever.)

After my nails were finished, I took Brooke (Lucas's girlfriend) by both of the girls' schools and showed her where to sign them out. She was picking the girls up at noon and taking them to get their hair and nails done. Then, I walked into my house to food from Greenhouse Grill (one of my faves) and a little lingerie shower. It was such a nice surprise and exactly what I needed as my nerves (good nerves) were officially setting in!

I got lots of great "outfits", and Haley and Tara had a game of questions that they had asked Nick. Some of them were QUITE FUNNY to answer with my mom and Aunt Kim there-- haha.

I said bye to everyone and headed to my hair appointment. Shea did my hair, and she did exactly what I was picturing. Loose, wavy and down. I didn't want anything in my hair-- including a veil. I felt completely myself!

Next, I headed to the church for some more quiet time, and an hour later, the girls arrived with Brooke. Their hair looked GORGEOUS, and each one looked different. I was VERY happy with it. They were on CLOUD 9... Candy Craze in hand and ready to put on their dresses! I had them wait a little bit for the photographer to show up.

Then, everyone else started arriving. The girls all kind of walked through it real quick (we didn't have a rehearsal) and got a feel of where to stand. I didn't want a formal rehearsal as I just wanted it to go with the flow.

I was then shipped back to the bride's room b/c my groom had entered the building. I am super weird about seeing each other before the ceremony begins. I'm not very traditional, but that is one thing I am hard core about. I didn't want to see, speak or even text him until he saw me walking down the aisle to him.

The time for the wedding came, and I was so excited, nervous, happy, etc.

They called everyone out except for me, and I waited as they walked down. Then, she called me, and I walked around the corner and faced my dad. He gave me a kiss and told me how happy he was for me. CUE: FLOOD GATES OPENED I was sobbing. I knew I was going to do this, and this was a LARGE part of why I didn't get married in front of a lot of people. They opened the doors to the chapel, and we walked down the aisle. I was still SOBBING. Later on, Nick told me that he was so concerned about how much I was crying, and he thought I didn't want to marry him! hahahahahaha It made me laugh. I was crying so much b/c I was overwhelmed with all the emotions- Ecstatic, in shock, thinking of how much and how long we had wanted to do this but made sure that the time was right for the girls, just everything. As soon as my dad handed me over to Nick and I was holding his hands a rush of calmness came over me, and I was able to make it through the wedding without being a sob-master!

The wedding was great. Standing by my side were my sisters, Tara, Haley and Ally. (For those of you confused, Ally is a friend I've known since she was born. My parents' best friends are her parents, "Aunt" Kim and "Uncle" Joey. Her brother is Jordan who is 19 days older than me. We are all tight. She is my "seester".) Tara so graciously came to me in February and told me that she would be honored if Nick and I wanted to get married before her wedding in July so that we could live a normal life. She was so unselfish, and I am so grateful for a sister like her. (I'm being cheesy but this is true.) Halo is going to be the greatest aunt. Nick and the girls love her, and I've enjoyed seeing them fall in love with quiet Haley.

Abbey was my junior bridesmaid, and Libby and Bryn were flower girls. Isaac and Ben suited it up and were my ring bearers. They all looked adorable!

I also had 3 very special friends and also mentors with the girls there to witness. 2 were there in person and 1 "in spirit". Julie, Carolyn and Raven have been my ROCKS (along with many other people) for the past year and a half. If you don't know, it has been a very fun year and a half, but Nick and I (as everyone) have also had very HARD times as well. They weren't hard times as far as our faithfulness to each other or our love for each other. They were just those hard times that you get when you are in our situation. I really leaned on them like crazy during both the good and bad times. There were even times outside of Nick and me that were hard. People on the outside being concerned that he was too old for me or being concerned about my happiness in having 3 stepdaughters or just lots of things, and I wouldn't have made it without them! They are all close to the girls, and I will be turning to Julie when I need advice about Abbey, Carolyn for Libby and Raven for Bryn. There were flowers in honor of them as mentors and in memory of mine and Nick's grandparents. Raven made the hair bows the girls wore in the wedding, so I keep saying "you were there via the bows"! hahaha

Nick's best man was his cousin, Chad. His groomsmen were Eric and Lucas.

Brooke read Colossians 3:12-17 and then we exchanged our vows and rings. We also gave Abbey, Libby and Bryn cross necklaces after we exchanged rings. It was to symbolize our joining our lives together. Everyone there did communion while Rusty Turner sang The Lord's Prayer while Les Oliver played. Dawn Spragg (who officiated) then had us recite Ruth 1:16 together at the same time, and then she pronounced us husband and wife. Oh, and then we kissed.

I can't wait to get pics and the video back. It was truly a great and intimate ceremony just how we wanted. We'll be celebrating with everyone in the fall at a party at our house, and I can't wait!

Then we went to Aloft (where we spent the night) for drinks and an impromptu trip to JJ's where I didn't make it long before I needed to go to bed. (Yes, that's right. We went to JJ's on our wedding night--- IN MY DRESS. We are classy let me tell ya.)

We woke up at 11am the next day, and it was so weird that we were married! I didn't think it would feel any different, but it did!

So, that's that. I'm now Mrs. Gowen, and Nick is a lucky man! (hehehe)

I can't wait to celebrate with everyone in the fall!

Yep, We're Getting Married!

If you don't already know this little bit of information---

Nick and I are engaged!!

It was really late. We had just gotten home from his bike race and dinner.

He proposed last Sunday night, and although I knew it was coming in the near future, it was still very special to me, and I bawled like a baby. He surprised me by using my grandmother's diamond that she wore during her first marriage and that my father also used to propose to my mom. My mom wore the ring for 25 years before my dad "upgraded" on their 25th anniversary. So, needless to say, I was ecstatic. I had mentioned several times that was the ring I wanted him to use, but he kept making me think he wasn't going to. Very nice of him.

And we are getting married May 26.... of this year. It will be a very small wedding, and in the late summer/early fall-- there will be a fun celebration/reception for everyone!

And NO, I am NOT pregnant. That seems to be the big question when everyone finds out how soon we are doing this. Nope!

We just want to be married and live together and be with the girls and just live our lives!

Yay, yay and yay!

My grandfather gave me a lot of advice when he was alive, and one of the pieces of advice/bargaining tools he gave me was to "run away and get married and he would pay me the amount the wedding would have cost". Well, that followed down to my parents when my Papa passed away, and I am taking that offer most definitely! It will still be a very intimate and meaningful ceremony... I just won't have a ton of eyes on me as I geek out. hehe I hired a videographer and photographer to film it so we can share with anyone who wants to see it!

Nick and I are really excited. It's been very busy the past week since he proposed. Everything is pretty much set to go (with the exception of those pesky little things)... which shows you exactly how small this thing will be.

The girls are pumped, and they have decided I will be called a "bonus mom" instead of a "stepmom". Someone called me a bonus mom the other day, and I hadn't ever heard it. Now, everywhere I turn they are calling "us" that now. LOVE IT.

Abbey is going to be my junior bridesmaid, and Libby and Bryn will be flower girls.

When we told Libby and Bryn. Libby hugged me for a good 3 minutes, and Bryn was very happy.

Nick's eyes are about to close, but I had to put it on here for the memories of telling them. Abbey was at her choir concert prep, so she found out after. I didn't get a picture of it!

Day of fun last Sunday-- shopping for dresses for the girls.

I couldn't ask for a better person to be my husband and best friend. We have been through some VERY hard and stressful times given our circumstances, and I love how we have handled each other even during those moments (and in moments to come) let alone how much fun I have with him during the best of times. I love you, Nick Gowen!!

I will for sure keep you all updated.

Raven called today with news that was almost unbearable to hear. Family friends of hers and Bart's lost their 3 year old son in a very freak accident on their sheep farm in Arizona last night. I can't even begin to imagine nor do I want to. PLEASE keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

It definitely put things into perspective for me as I've been "sulking" the past couple of days with the girls being gone. As we grow closer and closer, it gets harder and harder not having them around on the nights they are at their mom's. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate my time alone with Nick and having adult time, but it is also hard not to see the girls everyday.

When I talked to Raven today, I realized I should be thankful for the 50% of the time we do have with them and cherish every moment (good and bad).

I picked Abbey up from school today and took her to dance, and it was really good to see her. Then, Nick and I got to see all of them for a few minutes this evening. They will be at his house tomorrow night, and I can't wait!! I'm making Sara's homemade chicken soup recipe upon Abbey's request.

So, after hearing the news that I did today, here's just SOME of the kids I'm thankful for in my life.....

Dance Parties and Easter Egg Hunts

I had a blast this weekend. It was busy but a good busy. The weekends always go by way too fast...

Friday, we all went to Chick-Fil-A for dinner and then dropped Abbey off at the movies with 12 of her friends. We took Libby and Bryn to Barnes and Noble, and after changing their minds a few times, they both settled on one book each.

I met up with Nick, the girls and his parents after setting up for an event Saturday morning, and the girls got new bedding for their rooms. SO FUN. We are gradually adding decor, etc to their house, and I'm actually enjoying it. That stuff usually isn't my thing.

The girls had friends spend the night this weekend. They dyed Easter eggs and had a dance party (that contained a guest list, dress code, strobe light and music). You had to have your hand stamped in order to get in. THANKFULLY, Nick and I "made the cut".

Kings River Falls

Nick and I went out to Kings River Falls last Saturday afternoon. It was a gorgeous day. We got out of the neighborhood and realized we had left behind a very important passenger--- STEVE. So, we turned around to get him, and the rest is history. He LOVED it out there.

It's Been a While

I am not going to lie-- I've had time for blogging. Not much time, but I have had time.

HOWEVER, my normal blog time has been occupied by Words With Friends the past couple of weeks. Nick and the girls got me an ipad for my birthday, and since I've never had an iphone, this was my first time to be able to join the "cool kids" and play WWF.

Addicting? YES

I'm back though... just somehow going to have to manage both in my life! :)

Iron Pig
Nick and Julie participated in the Iron Pig a couple weeks ago. Julie did the run/ride duathlon and Nick did the bike time trial. WAY TO GO KIDS!!! I was proud of both of them. We all went out to support them, and the girls made signs to hold up with Isaac and Ben.

The girls are SLIGHTLY obsessed with the boys. Abbey had a blast taking pics of them with my camera, and Libby and Morgan (Libby's friend) had a great time keeping up with them. It is funny to watch Bryn interact with them too. She is "so big". Sosi (Ryan and Julie's niece) was there as well. So, needless to say, it was a fun time.

I picked Libby and Bryn up from school a couple Fridays ago (Abbey is past Chuckie/Build a Bear days and went shopping w her mom), and we had what Libby quoted as "the best birthday ever". haha I must say, I really liked the pizza there AND the prices!

My First School Lunch
I blocked out last Friday for some "Jenny time" and to get some things done for a committee I'm on, so I took Libby to lunch at McDonalds during her lunch time and then headed back to the school with lunch for Bryn and her friend Chloe.

A) I was SO nervous b/c I've never checked them out of school or had lunch in the cafeteria.

B) The office ladies were SO nice.

C) Some of the moms who were there eating with their children were NOT so nice. WOW. I have read in my "becoming a stepmom books" about how a lot of moms would be rude to me as the "girlfriend/to be stepmom one day", but I had NO idea how true it would be. THANKFULLY, I do not have "winning their approval" on my list of priorities so it does not matter. :)

D) Bryn's teacher's aide came up to me at the end of lunch and said, "I want you to know that Bryn talks about you all the time and really loves you." That was very nice to hear.

As I said before-

He's 6 months (almost 7), house broken and very excited to be here.

I found myself missing him when we were in Hot Springs, so that is a good sign!

The girls love him, and Abbey is so good with helping feed him and walk him.

So, that's that.
